The whole process was even quicker the second time around since I had done it once before. I cut, measured, and pinned for about half an hour one evening, then sewed the shirt the next morning before anyone else was up. I followed Jesse’s instructions for the most part with a few variations. Try This Simple Mens Shirt Refashion 1. Remove shirt collar and pocket First, cut off the collar and pocket. 2. Add back pleats Try on the shirt and make a big pleat in the back to gather the material to fit your frame. I sewed the back pleat down the entire way, rather than just at the very bottom. Transform an old men’s shirt into a flirty and fun tank top with this easy refashioning project. It’s a simple and thrifty way to sew a DIY camisole! For this tutorial, you’ll need an old shirt. I bought this one at the thrift store and it cost me $2.50. This is a size 6 and the shirt was an XL. Probably, you’ll need more than one shirt if you want to make a bigger size. The straps are made with the seams of the shirt. The pattern contains front and back pieces (x2) and front and back facings (cut on fold). * Straps Length size 4-6: 8.75″ (x4) size 8-10: 9.125″ (x4) size 12-14: 9.5″ (x4) size 16-18: 9.875″ (x4) * This is an indicative measure. Before cutting them, try the top on and choose your desired length.

Try this simple… The lace up trend is a fun detail and easy update to do on an oversized/boxy t-shirt like I did into a corset top. Try this simple tutorial on an oversized shirt, collar shirts, corsets, collars, and hems. I always have my Dritz Eyelet Pliers and eyelets on hand for projects like this. I also used their new 2-Part Eyelet Kit. Supplies: Dritz Eyelet Pliers Eyelets 2-Part Eyelet Kit T-shirt Brother SE1800 Sewing Machine DIY instructions: I used the hem of a t-shirt scrap I had in my fabric bin to create the trim. If you don’t have any around then you can simple make one by folding a strip of fabric (2 in. x desired length) in half (right sides out) and press flat. Then evenly mark dots for the eyelets. Cut a very small hole with the pliers or use sharp embroidery scissors. When using knit make sure to make the hole slightly smaller because it will stretch. Place the eyelet in with the flat portion on the right side. Then use your eyelet pliers or the 2-Part Eyelet Kit to secure the eyelets. Also, each tool comes with thorough instructions on how to use them. Now for the front of the shirt, mark where you’d like to place your trim with tailors chalk or some sort of marking tool. I made mine at the quarter marks from the side seams and 10 inches in length. With right sides together pin your trim along the markings. Raw edges should be on the inside when pinning. Make sure to only pin through the front or back part of the shirt (depending on where you want your lace up to be). Sew the inner sides as shown with the black dash lines on both sides. Use some cording or string and begin lacing up from the bottom and tie at the top… Try this on other garments to get different looks and fit. SaveSave
