I love to connect to each an everyone of you! I am sure you stopped by because you want to make this adorable date night jar. I am going to show you how and you will be on your way to never having to stress about what to do for date night again! I like to plan and so I thought it would be a great day to post about date night. Date night can be one of those things that gets overlooked. It can easily be pushed aside with our busy lives or if you have a day planned for date night then you might get to the night of the date and look at each other and say, “So what do you want to do tonight?” Sound familiar? Well I want to help you with that. Since I am a planner I try and avoid the situation above at all costs. So in comes the date night jar. This will help you have at least one idea per WEEK for date night! I am sure you have seen these on Pinterest. I love them for two reasons. 1. I love mason jars and I love decorating them. 2. I like to have a plan. The date night jar lets me fulfill both of these items. Now of course you do not have to decorate the jar. I was going to do that at first, this would only take 5-10 minutes of your time, but I HAD to decorate the jar. So skip that step if you want to. Honestly, even with painting the jar it only took me 20 minutes. Dry time not included. That is from gathering my materials to placing it on the piano…read to be used. For this project you will need: Mason jar (I used a pint sized jar) Jumbo Craft sticks (I used colored ones that I had already purchased for a color activity for my daughter. I was going to spray paint them, but decided to use the colors I already had. Colored or natural) Sharpie Extra Fine Point Marker If you want to paint your jar like below you will need two additional items: Acrylic paint Spouncers (here) If you are painting your jar then you will want to get started on that right away. Make sure you are starting with a clean jar. Next you will pour some acrylic paint into the jar. Then you will swirl the jar around until you cover the whole jar. You will have to do this over newspaper or wax paper. Because you will have some pour out while doing this. Then I place it upside down to allow the paint to continue to drip out. I place it on sticks because if you do not do this then it will stick to the paper and you won’t be happy. I actually used a wood skewer and broke it in half. I put this over some newspaper. For a little while after I wipe the rim off because you do not want to have too much paint puddling along the rim. While that is drying I started brainstorming date ideas. I knew I wanted to do 4 categories. Free (Blue) At Home (Red) Outside the home (Yellow) More expensive (Green) Once I had ideas then I started writing them down on the sticks according to color. Some of the dates are self explanatory, but many of them are ideas from The Dating Divas. I love those ladies and the creativity that they bring to dating you husband. If you have not heard or seen their blog then go over right now (okay actually after you finish my post 🙂 ) Here is the list and links of the dates I utilized from their site: Movie on the Move Garage Sale Date Getting to Know You Matching Game Power Outage Date Night The Color Code Date Hocus Pocus Date Night Mirror Mirror Date Night Couples Would You Rather Les Miserables date night Once I had them all written down (during this time every once in awhile I was wiping the opening of the jar to wipe off all the extra paint dripping down out of the jar) I decided to add polka dots to the outside of the jar. I used gold because I might use this jar for other things as well. I like to multitask and I like the white with the gold dots. The dots were really easy since I had the Spouncer. I thought I wanted bigger dots, but I started with the half inch size and I liked it. So I kept going. Then I let the jar sit overnight to dry. After it dried overnight it was ready to use. I put the color code explanation on a ribbon that I tied around the jar. Get that printable here. I love that the dates ideas are figured out. I still think it would be a good idea to choose one of these sticks on Wednesday for the coming weekend. That way it gives you time to prepare if there is any preparation needed. I am so excited to try this out and to help my hubby in the planning of his date nights. I hope you all can utilize this idea and remember your date nights.
